The following is a comment that I found in response to my post about the Knights Of Columbus earlier today. You talk about intolerance and hate.
"You forgot the part about old men protesting women's right to choose and refusing to rent KofC halls to gays because they are, well, gay.
The KoC crowd are a bunch of fucking hatemongers if you ask me. The catholic church with dry up and blow away before long if qwe are lucky and that will be a great thing.
You call yourself a liberal? What a fucking joke!"

Ok - let's just for a moment call that excerpt from an anonymous poster as an example of "hate".
Is it more or less "hate"-ful than denying citizens use of your facilities because you can't stand the thought that two gay people might invite their friends and family to celebrate their wedding vows which took place earlier in the day at some other venue?
I really don't know what the local situation is, only what I read about the BC court case and others. So I'm not going to jump to any conclusions. But as a matter of genuine curiosity, is the local K of C one of those that refuses use of its facilities on the basis of sexual orientation, or have they moved on from that debate?
If they have not, how do you feel about it, and how to you reconcile your position with calling oneself a "liberal"?
There. I have no idea who your previous poster was, and hopefully you won't consider my question one of "hate". I'm just genuinely curious to know what you think.
Personally, I have no problem with churches deciding what is and is not doctrine. They can and should choose to marry whomever they see fit. And the government has no place telling them otherwise. But when it comes to renting out community halls, surely there's a time for some sense of dignity and equality to prevail, no?

Mark you do not consider this hate-ful?
I posted the comment just to point out the type of comments that people will make as anonymous and not put there name to.
Your questions are fair. I do not see these issues as black and white.
I do not know what the position of any KOC facility is in this province. Our council does not have
a hall. I will make a few inquires.
I think that if a gay couple want to hold their wedding reception in a facility owned by a religious organization that has a stated doctrine that it is opposed to gay marriage than they are looking for a fight.
If it is a public/community hall that is open to rent for activities than it would not be acceptable to deny access based on sexual orientation. I certainly, as an individual would argue against any attempt to block usage of a community venue based on that.
