THE FIXED TERM RED HERRING

Stephen Harper's decision to call an election tomorrow and kick the chair out from under his own Minority Government despite his government's new fixed term legislation does not bother me.

Sure, politicians need to remind the public that Harper has broken promises but this insistent whining about the call is annoying me to no end. The longest minority in our country's history was doomed to crumble this fall. The nature of a minority government is that it's just a confidence vote away from collapse. The fixed election rules do not apply to minorities. The opposition is saying Harper broke his own laws but let's face it, they were preparing to bring down the government so either way there was no fixed term. Simply put this government was only going to last until one of the major players decided the conditions were ripe for a win...and here we are.

The fixed term issue is a ploy. Let's get to the substantive issues with this Conservative government, like the the litany of broken promises, failed economic policies, police investigations, cabinet scandals, the manipulation of the media, the failed environmental record and weak cabinet.

When the clutter settles down the public will have a choice between a solid team led by a person of great integrity with a plan for the future of this country or a one man show with no talent on his bench. Let's face it, even Wayne Gretzky could not win a Stanley Cup on his own.

  2. Is Elizabeth Marshall's impending candidacy the worst kept secret in St. John's East or is it just me?

I thought that it was pretty much self explanatory. Dion has a much broader team and presents a vastly superior option to the Conservatives.

I have been hearing that as well but I have been too busy with Doors Open over the weekend to blog.
