Binge drinking - common at universities across the continent and considered a rite of passage by many students - can lead to bad decisions, injury and even death, as was evidenced last month in Burnaby, B.C., when a 20-year-old died of alcohol poisoning after downing 10 beers and a twenty-sixer of whiskey. - The Telegram
I thought today's front page story in the Telegram on binge drinking and university students was pretty timely considering my recent interest in the topic. It is great to learn that the wellness center is attempting to educate students about the importance of drinking responsible to ensure good choices and protect ones health.
Perhaps the bar industry in the province may want to step forward with a similar program to educate young people off campus. Perhaps the provincial government will stop being hypocritical and stop marketing drinks that target and endanger young lives like these powerdrink/alcohol combos.
