Presumed frontrunner for leadership of the Liberal Party, Finance
Minister Dwight Duncan says he will be retiring from provincial politics and supporting Sandra Pupatello, if she decides to jump into
the race.
The announcement came as a surprise to many pundits and is
sure to boost pressure on the retired Pupatello to come back to public life.
Pupatello retired in 2011 to pursue a career at
PricewaterhouseCoopers as the director of business and global markets. She told
the CBC's The Early Shift that she's "leaning toward"
entering the race.
Pupatello was the
MPP for Windsor-West for 16 years and served in some of the provinces top
cabinet positions including Minister of
Economic Development and Trade.
She retired from
politics prior to the last provincial election.
She is married to former Newfoundland Liberal leader, and current St. Barbe MHA Jim Bennett.
Bennett is
said to be considering a run at the parties leadership in 2013.
The Ontario Liberals choose a new leader on the weekend of Jan. 25. The Newfoundland and Labrador Liberals will select a new leader on the weekend of November 15 – 17, 2013.
It has the makings of a hectic 12 months for this power couple!

She is a looker! I am not sure if Jim Bennett is a premier. Sure be cool to have a husband and wife team leading two different provinces.
