I heard a rumor tonight that the Liberals are on the verge of canceling their fall convention scheduled for October 25th in St. John's. Volunteer burn-out from a Federal Campaign that will end on October 14th may be cited as the reason to put it off indefinitely.
The real issue is lack of interest, lack of money and lack of leadership. The party has frantically been trying to fill out district associations and create the illusion of a paper tiger but interest is at an all-time low. It seems the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador cannot afford to follow its constitution.
Apparently the banks are not that pleased with the Party's inability to make payments and even making minimum interest payments has become a challenge once again. Of course there is nothing in terms of collateral for the banks to move on, so the debt will just grow higher and higher in the hopes that someday party fortunes will turn around and someone will give them dimes on the dollars owed.
Perhaps the Liberals should put their care-keeper leader on a performance contract. Let's face it what's the rush to rebuild when you're getting a cabinet minister's salary no matter how poorly you do in the polls!
So this annual general meeting and the leadership have been put off indefinitely. So much for democracy in the Liberal Party.
