The school year starts tomorrow and Virginia Park Elementary is still in the dark about a proposed re-development.
The Eastern District School Board has once again recommended that the re-development proceed but we have not heard anything from the Provincial Department of Education. This time last year we were on the verge of a walkout over conditions at the school.
We agreed to work with the board and the Department of Education on some short term fixes while Phase Two of the Multi-Year Planing Process was completed. We keep getting told that we missed the budget process and to wait for the next one while other schools in government districts seem not to be constrained by such factors.
I have requested a meeting with Education Minister Burke but assume we are some where behind MUN on the urgent meeting list. All we want is a commitment from the Provincial Government that they support the redevelopment plan and some funding to begin the engineering and planning work.
Seems the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Time to amplify the issue again.
