Newfoundland and Labrador's top political reporter David Cochrane has stolen some of Premier Danny Williams thunder by uncovering that the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has reached an agreement to develop the seemingly unattainable Lower Churchill Project.
A press conference is scheduled for tomorrow in St. John's with Nova Scotia NDP Premier Darrell Dexter!
The skipper must be vexed about the leak of this historic development.
Great news!

Not a chance.
It will not work.
The experts - Grimes, Danny Dummeresque and Ed Hollett have spoken. Why were these fountains of knowledge and expertise ignored when the province has so much faith in them?
Who is this premier listening to? One can only hope it is not economists, engineers or bankers.
Hold the champagne and don't throw out your oil furnace just yet. Let's see the numbers first and proof that this "deal" is a good one before getting all giddy. Somebody will have to pay for this.

The same skipper who sent out invitations this morning?
Right. Whatever. Who do you think did the "leaking"?
WJM -- it wasn't the "skipper" or his staff. We sourced out the story and reported it before we even had contact with the premier's staff. At that point, we got a 'no comment."
I know it better suits a certain world view to think Williams just called us up and we duly reported what he said. But that is not what happened here.
In fact, if anyone thinks this government leaks to the CBC, you clearly have not been paying attention. We got this through good source work. Not a government leak.

Even so; if His Premeriosity sent out invites with a date and time and location on them, they couldn't have been overly upset about the "leak".
And yeah, good on y'all for getting the story. Certain other outlets are still, at this hour, crediting MotherCorp for the scoop.
Wally;
As far as I know, your boss (Todd Russell) was in favour of LC development. As a political staffer to a MP, don't you think you should check with him before you slag something taking place in his riding?
Sure you know that the all seeing eyes, hobbits and trolls have much superior sources than the CBC. The telegraphic communication network from Ottawa knows and sees all.
They are superior reporters, superior minds, superior political pundits, superior writers, superior editors. They are all that they claim to despise. Jealousy, insecurity, desperation and arrogance all rolled together.
We are all puppets of the state. It is black and white. Your with them or against them.
David Cochrane is the only reporter in the province who can get under Danny Williams' skin the way he obviously did today, and damn, it's fun to watch.
Only the most willfully blind of Danny apologists would attempt to claim that this story was leaked deliberately by the premier or his staff. Cochrane/CBC scooped the announcement, and Danny did not enjoy that fact one little bit. Looks good on the smug little control freak.
They are superior reporters, superior minds,
Nothing Could Be Further From The Truth.
superior political pundits,
OK, guilty as charged.

You related to the Peter L. Whittle who has casually bandied about words like "traitor" and "quisling"?
I stand by those comments and would not hesitate to use them again today if the circumstances were repeated.
No apologies from me for calling it as I saw it and standing in union with the people of the province over the accord, equalization against broken Conservative promises.
Danny did not enjoy that fact one little bit.
And he looked real angry about it as he flashed his usual self-satisfied smirk when asked about it during his scrum on Wednesday.
Cain:
Point out the "slag". Be specific.
Thank you.
Ah.
So it's OK for you to say "Your with them or against them", but not OK for anyone else to say that, even if, erm, they've never actually said that?
Right. OK.
Now I see why you're such a big DannyFan.

Here we go again, this becomes so very monotonous. You have a non-stop, 24-7 anti-government propaganda machine running. Knock yourself out. I tend to look at issues individually. I took a public position that I believe in, despite how some partisan types felt. Just like I have ALWAYS supported reform to the Accord, taking equity positions in offshore projects, the transfer of the federal share of Hibernia, displacing dirty Holyrood with Lower Churchill Power and the establishment of a public energy corporation. It just happens that this premier took action on these files.
Once again no apologies from me.

Cain makes an excellent point that got ignored in the all-too-predictable rush to Peter-bash. WJM?
the transfer of the federal share of Hibernia
"Transfer"?
Interesting word choice.
displacing dirty Holyrood with Lower Churchill Power
According to Nalcor's existing documentation, there is no plan to do that.
Meanwhile, Labrador will get to continue using "clean diesel", I guess. Does that bother you? Why or why not?
PS what happened to my reply to DC?
