MANNING WANTS TO RECONCILE PROMISES TO DELIVER THE GOODS

Did anyone else happen to catch Avalon MP, Conservative Fabian Manning, admit that his party has failed to live up to their promises regarding equalization while chatting with Bill Rowe on VOCM's Backtalk today.

He told Bill Rowe that he is still committed to finding ways to bridge the impasse and that the amount in question ranges depending on different estimates. "5, 6, 10, 15 Billion" he admitted. He wants to make it up and work with the province to do it. He sounded like a chastened beaten man.

I have to admit that I felt for a few minutes like perhaps he deserved another chance before I snapped back to reality. He told Rowe that he is not interested in prolonging the fight with the province but it takes two to work together. Trust these guys to deliver. Fabian can feign sincerity all that he wants. He has proven that when the chips are down that he is a Harper man not a fighting Newfoundlander.

I wonder if Fabian's kinder, humbler new approach of reconciliation has anything to do with a
Corporate Research Associates poll that shows that Conservative support in the province is slipping. Some Conservative friends say that Fabian has been assured a cabinet spot, win or loose. That, if he fails to win the seat and the Conservatives win the government he will be appointed to the vacant senate seat and sworn in as the regional cabinet minister. Hows that for a no lose situation? Like it or not it would appear that Fabian is going to stay around for the long haul unless Canadian's give Harper the boot and the national polls are...that is fodder for another post!
